Welcome to Lowering Nets!

Hi! Welcome. My long-time and long-lost friends simply call me Rabz. In my other blog/desert tent, I am known as dFish.

Welcome to my personal pond of thoughts and reflections.

What’s in writing that’s beginning to attract me most? Here’s my one million pesos worth of an answer: it’s catching morsel by morsel the Mystery and mysteries bigger obviously than our imagination. Take human genealogy for example, your own bloodline. Isn’t it a mystery why you are born into the kind of families you belong, with all the warts that you could whimper about, and the unique gifts that continue to amaze you? My human roots as well as yours are clusters of complex mysteries. But the moment I begin writing down one complex family matter, I get hold of a morsel of the mystery. If it’ s gratifying enough, I rejoice; if it’s painful, the choice to gain and learn from the pain still remains mine. And so with yours, I believe.

One more thing I like about writing – the silence that precedes and meddles in between threads of thoughts. It is such a priceless food for the spirit I cherish bottomless without regurgitating. The reflections here are spiced up, or more appropriately bred in the groundwater of silence. Or at least as much as I try to. My earnest goal for posting is two-pronged: to keep learning from silence, and to spatter a bit of this in the blogosphere. My earnest hope for you is for silence, rather than my thoughts, to carry you through after reading, much like a wooden banca lighted by the crimson splash of sunset on its way to the heart of a lake. If you come here with a sense of silence, then chances are the “lake creatures” you will encounter here, some familiar some not perhaps, might have meaning for you personally or for your significant others.

I traverse churchwork, hospitals, and the academe, blessed by the sheer grace of God to take up philosophy in college and then theology; as a Ford Foundation scholar for my grad studies in social science and health from one local university; as a grad fellow in St. Louis, Missouri; and as an alumnus of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center,  all on top of being a Catholic lay and family man. This background bespeaks of the areas I often wrestle with, or draw out some delights from.

Have a meaningful time then! Feel free to leave some trail through your comments, regardless of whether you are a blogger or not.
